What: 4-Day flamenco dance workshop

Lena Jacome's Flamenco Workshop was a milestone for me.
It was complete.
It was challenging.
It was empowering.
During the four-day-long experience, we were taught posture, footwork, arm positioning, and palmas. We danced solo, with a partner, and with live guitar music. I'll never forget how Lena taught us the Flamenco posture: imagine a jewel embedded in your chest and let it shine out to the world.
Even though Lena fed us copious amounts of choreography during the workshop, I never felt overwhelmed. Lena was generous, kind, and encouraging. She adapted the class to everyone and had a smile or a word of encouragement for all. She even allowed us to film her dancing so that we could practice at home.
Though Lena's disposition put us at ease, she also offered up a challenge: the chance to perform in front of a live audience. I was hesitant at first, but I came to realize how important it was for the workshop to culminate that way. It brought the training we were given into the "Real World". For me, it became a proving ground. I now
know that I can successfully perform choreography onstage.
The jewel that Lena talked about in her posture training is none other than my heart. Lena's workshop showed me how to open it just a bit more.

Lena Jácome made a lasting impact on my dance students when she visited our high school. Her incredible patience and sensitivity helped over 35 students not only get a little glimpse of what being a Flamenco dancer is, but brought them to a new understanding of pride and accomplishment when they ultimately performed an original piece of her own choreography. Her effect on my students was unmistakable, when I found the students mimicking her every step and using her teaching tactics. Lena's time in the classroom with my students left a lasting impression and set an example of accomplishment that they could all strive to achieve in all aspects of their lives.

I am a beginner & have been receiving private dance lessons from Lena. She is dedicated and respectful of the dance and takes her role very seriously. She is always prepared, dependable and punctual. Her love & enthusiasm for the dance is contagious. I have found that she is attentive to my needs and is attuned to my individual way of learning. The lessons are always fun as well as challenging.
